Guide to a Spotless Laminate Flooring: Cleaning and Maintenance Tips

Laminate flooring is a popular choice of homeowners, and for good reasons. While it gives the timeless aesthetic appeal of wood, it costs much less and makes cleaning a breeze! If you have laminate flooring in your home, you’re in for an easy clean!

With all the right equipment and know-how on how to go about cleaning and maintaining laminate flooring, it’s easy to keep it looking fabulous all the time! Read on, and you’ll find some helpful tips on how to keep your floor sparkling through the ages!

Regular Maintenance

Just like every other type of floor, the more often you clean your laminate flooring, the brighter it will stay. While it’s relatively uncommon to sweep it every day, most experts advise a weekly or fortnightly cleaning service.

Run a vacuum cleaner over the surface to pick up dust, especially from the corners. Make sure you go over the crevices thoroughly, since that’s where most of the debris will accumulate. In the absence of a vacuum cleaner, you can also use a soft dusting mop to sweep the floor. Brooms or abrasive cloths can damage the finish, so better avoid those!

Monthly Cleaning

Besides the regular cleaning, extensive floor cleaning once a month will keep it sparkling for longer. Other than the usual vacuuming or sweeping, a damp mop will do an excellent job at giving your laminate flooring a thorough cleaning job.

Before mopping the floor, vacuum it just like you would do for regular weekly maintenance. This will remove the dust and debris, which would otherwise spread around with wet mopping. Once you’ve cleared the dust out of the way, it’s time to tackle the stubborn stains. Don’t use an abrasive cloth or apply too much pressure to remove them, or you’ll damage the finish. Instead, use laminate floor cleaners to remove stains.

Read the instructions of the cleaner package to prepare a cleaning solution in a suitable concentration. Spray the solution lightly on the floor, and mop it with a dry cloth. Leaving the liquid too long on the floor can damage the surface.

Hot Water and Vinegar – Your Ultimate Homemade Cleaner

Don’t have a special laminate cleaner? Just like most for most other house cleaning chores, white vinegar is your ultimate weapon! Just mix a cup of vinegar in a bucket full of hot water to make your homemade cleaning solution. Dampen a soft cloth in the solution, squeeze out the excess liquid and mop the floor with it. Mop the floor with a dry cloth once you’re done.

Spot Clean

Don’t leave coffee spills and food crumbs to be handled at the next cleaning session. Spot clean spills, dirt or any mess as soon as it develops. Wipe off the spills with a damp cloth, followed by a dry wipe. If you leave them be, they’ll harden up in days and become extra critical to clean when you’re finally ready to get rid of them. As for the food crumbs, you’ll have to pick them up before wiping the surface clean.

Take care of your laminate flooring, follow all the tips highlighted above and you’ll have it looking as fresh as it was when you first had it installed. Avoid abrasive mops and strong cleaning solutions, and your laminate floor won’t lose its glow in years!
